FAQ

Are you insured?

Yes, I am insured through Zensurance.

What animals do you work with?

I work with any and all animals from little to big, whether they have fur, scales or feathers, I’ve got you covered!

I have professional training and hands on experience with cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, birds, lizards, bearded dragons, and geckos.

For insurance reasons I am not able to care for horses or aggressive animals.

What happens after I send a request?

I will contact you to set up a meet and greet! If you would like we can do a video chat first and then schedule a meet and greet.

The meet and greet consists of me coming to your house (or you coming to mine in case of boarding/daycare) to meet the animals, get acquainted with your residence, and to collect a house key or get the house code. If you would like me to pick up and drop off the key for each booking after the first booking, a $10 fee will be applied/booking. The meet and greet usually takes about 20-40 minutes. If you would like to schedule a longer meet and greet, please let me know once I respond to your contact request.

While I’m at your house you can show me where the pet’s items are such as food, extra dishes, litter boxes, leashes, treats, hiding spots, and what tasks you would like me to do.

Once the meet and greet has been completed and we have agreed we are a good fit for each other’s needs, you are officially a client! You can simply send me an email from now on with any dates and service you would like to book.

Once I have become a client, how do I book your services in the future?

You can simply send me a request via email with any dates and services you would like pet care for. Please include which animals you require care for, the service you require, requested dates and times, and any other important information.

Do I have to schedule a meet and greet every time I request your services?

Nope! Unless something has changed in your home, you have moved or you would like me to come again, there is no need to schedule a meet and greet each time.

I may ask to do a quick meet and greet if it has been a while since I’ve seen your pet! Please don’t be offended, I just want to ensure everything is the same and that I remember where everything is.

How do bookings work?

All bookings are first come, first serve. A deposit is required each time a service is booked. Please send me an email each time you would like to book my services. In this email, please include which animals you require care for, the service you would like to book, requested dates and times, and any other important information.

What does a drop in visit look like?

Each visit is completely customizable to you and your pet’s needs!

You can choose what time(s) you would like to schedule me to visit with your pet*. You may also opt for flexible drop-in times if the timing does not matter to you. With flexible drop-in times, you may request for example that I simply visit once a day or you can be more specific such as ‘must be less than 24 hours apart each time’ – up to you how flexible you would like to be!

*Please allow for a 10-minute buffer time (earlier or later) due to travel times and traffic. For example: you request that I come at 9am. I will arrive as close to 9am but may arrive anytime between 8:50am-9:10am. Regardless of the time I arrive, the length of time I spend with your pet does not change.

You can choose how long you would like me to stay with your pet. Most common option is 30 minutes or 1 hour, but we can certainly discuss customizing the drop-in visit to you and your pet’s needs.

During my drop-in I can provide any pet service(s) you would like! Including but not limited to feeding, refilling water dishes, cleaning pet dishes, scooping litter boxes, taking pets to the backyard, play time, turning on/off de/humidifiers and A/C units, emptying dehumidifier water, and opening/closing curtains or windows.

At the end of each drop in I will send you your choice of text message or email with an update.

These updates will include all tasks I completed during my visit, how the pet is doing (this includes if they went to the bathroom, if they ate all their food or not , their mental status, etc.), and any fun stories or notes as well as pictures. You can request I include something specific however I usually try to mention anything and everything that could be important or of notice!

Do you ever have other petsitters come in your place?

As a solo-owned business, you can be assured that I will always be the only caregiver attending your pet.

What is your payment policy?

A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking.

The remainder 50% is due once the booking is complete.

Cash and e-transfer are accepted.

E-transfers can be sent to leah.rk.murphy@gmail.com

What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellation requests must be made in writing. I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations in order to receive a full refund of the deposit. If less than 24 hours’ notice is provided, the deposit will be retained. I understand that life happens and plans can change, however this policy allows me to plan my schedule and ensure availability for other clients.

Do you work with aggressive animals?

For insurance purposes I am unable to provide care for aggressive animals.

That being said, I believe every animal deserves a chance regardless of previous experiences with other people. Animals behave differently around different people. Meaning I am willing to meet every animal however I reserve the right to decline providing further services at any time.

If an animal becomes aggressive during a visit, I unfortunately will have to end the service requested. This is to ensure everyone’s safety, including the pets. In this case the full service cost is required even if the service could not be completed.

Weather and Emergencies

Living in Ottawa and surrounding areas we are all familiar with the wild weather patterns and the lengthy traffic that never seems to end. Due to this, I request some flexibility with each booking. While I will do my best to stick to the agreed upon booking times, there are times where I may not be able to follow it exactly. With each booking there is automatically a 10-minute buffer window where I may arrive up to 10 minutes earlier or later than the requested start time. If there are circumstances where I may be later than 10 minutes, I will alert you as soon as possible. I will never be more than 10 minutes early to a booking unless both parties have agreed to this.

If there is an emergency regarding your house or animal, I will attempt to call you. If you do not answer, I will call your emergency contacts. If no one answers, I reserve the right to make an executive decision on how to handle the emergency, within reason. The client will incur any costs associated with the emergency.
